The Inside Circle initiative continues to expand its reach, fostering positive change across the globe. Dr. James McLeary and Eldra Jackson III recently embarked on an inspiring journey to the Netherlands, conducting two transformative trainings for community members and volunteers. These trainings, inspired by the Outside Circle model, aim to establish Inside Circle groups within the Dutch prison system, promoting healing and connection.

A pivotal moment during this trip was the screening of the documentary The Work at the Zaanstad Justice Complex. This powerful film, followed by a thought-provoking Q&A session and a circle discussion, sparked meaningful dialogue among prisoners, staff, social workers, and representatives from The Hague. The event served as a testament to the potential for positive transformation within the correctional system.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Eileen Ruiter, a dedicated staff member at Zaanstad, for her instrumental role in spearheading this initiative and reimagining the possibilities of Dutch corrections.

The trainings themselves were held at the idyllic retreat center “The Place To Be,” a beautifully repurposed farm that echoes the serenity and mindfulness of Thich Nhat Hanh’s Plum Village. This tranquil setting provided the perfect backdrop for deep introspection and learning.

Inside Circle’s commitment to fostering connection and healing knows no bounds. We are excited to witness the ripple effects of this work as it continues to inspire and empower individuals and communities worldwide.
